First Aid Policy of the Rensselaer Outing Club ---------------------------------------------- Revision 11/1/95 by Jeffrey Newcomer There are 3 types of first aid training: (1) -- Red Cross Standard Adult CPR (2) -- Red Cross Standard First Aid (3) -- SOLO or equivalent ( EMT, paramedic, 1st responder ) All ROC leaders must have taken (1) and either (2) or (3). Certification need not be current, but knowledge should be. All trips that will be over an hour away from help must have at least one person who has taken (3). All class A or B leaders must have taken (1) and (3). All class A trips should have at least two people (including the leader) who have taken (3). Leaders on ROC trips must bring along a first aid kit (club or personal). Recommended first aid kit contents are: 1. 3" elastic bandage 2. bandaids, several sizes and at least 3 of each 3. butterfly laceration dressings -- at least 3 4. Sterile 3x3 gauze squares -- at least 3 5. Razor blade or bandage scissors 6. Safety pins -- several sizes 7. sunscreen 8. soap (cake or powder) 9. snake bite kit (if area warrants) 10. needle & thread 11. tweezers 12. moleskin or molefoam 13. talcum powder 14. after bite 15. insect repellent 16. rubber gloves 17. one way breathing resuscitation device 18. antisceptic towlets (alcohol, iodine, benadine, etc) 19. sterile vaseline for burns 20. Aspirin 21. Ibuprofen 22. Antacids 23. Immodium A-D 24. adhesive tape 25. neosporin or desitin 26. triangular bandage 27. iodine tablets 28. wilderness 1st aid book/pamphlet 29. paper & pencil 30. electrolyte tablets
